Annika Andela

Meet Annika

I am Annika Andela. I have been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember.
Both of my grandmothers inspired me to pursue this passion. One taught me the classical art of watercolor painting, focusing on flowers and animals. The other, by contrast, encouraged me to be more unconventional and follow my own path.
During my high school years, I soaked up everything related to painting, drawing, and art history.
Beyond that, I am largely self-taught. Over the years, I have experimented with a wide variety of materials and styles, but my love for art has always remained a constant factor.

The most beautiful thing about painting is that it allows me to briefly forget the world around me. For me, it is a form of meditation and therefore essential to who I am.
My works are colorful, distinctive, and inspired by both humanity and nature.

Every canvas is unique: an explosion of color combined with swift, expressive brushstrokes that instantly evoke an atmosphere.
I create original work that always carries a deeper layer, meant for people who feel that there is often more going on beneath the surface than what meets the eye.
As I like to say: "That volcano in a beautiful landscape may seem calm and serene, but beneath the surface, everything is bubbling. It waits for the right moment to erupt—gradually, but usually explosively. Only then do we see what the volcano was truly meant for." It works the same way with people: that feeling, that inner knowing that something is coming, something that cannot be suppressed.

Yet, sometimes I also paint "just" pure beauty: the play of light, color, and texture. Accessible, without a profound backstory.

The very fact that both approaches are allowed to coexist enables me to create art that truly comes from the heart. For people who understand just that.

In addition to painting, I work as a freelance creative art teacher in primary education. You can hire me for SLO-aligned art and technology lessons. Drawing from my background as a nurse, I also work as a practical trainer and learning ambassador in healthcare. I am also a wife and a mother to two young, school-aged children. In my free time, I enjoy day trips, traveling, nature, visiting museums, reading, good conversations, and homemade cake.
